last saturday i accomplished a small milestone in my quest to get in shape: i participated in the pat tillman run. i knew i wouldn't be able to run the whole thing - 4.2 miles - but my goal was to not stop, run as much as possible, and to make it to the finish line in under an hour.
2.5 miles of running and 59.something minutes later, i made it.
but my excitement was short lived. around mile 2 or so, my right leg went numb. of course i thought of a million horrible things first, then i settled on the fact that it probably had something to do with the inserts i have in my shoes for my old feet.
my right foot is still numb. i went to a foot doctor yesterday. he was pretty conscerned. my right foot was several degrees colder than my left foot. he sent me for an ultrasound to rule out a blood clot. he gave me a list of things it could be - nerve damage, swelling, tarsal tunnel syndrome, compartment syndrome, or DVT (deep vein thrombosis). plus he requested i wear a compression stocking, which is incredibly uncomfortable and even more unattractive.
he also said no more running for awhile and no jumping (because i like to randomly jump around, all day long).
i get the test results tomorrow. fingers crossed it is something easily treatable.
*funny side note - at the foot doctor's, everyone was easily 3x older than me. i am such an old lady! and he gave me the clinical term for my bunions - HAV deformity bilateral stage III with mild contracture digits 2-5 bilateral. translation: old lady feet with freak toes, right and left.

Awwwe. Poor Girl.
Don't worry, I have nasty bunions; I just haven't gone to a DR yet. I know I need to go get inserts and now I will know the clinical term... You're not the only one with freak feet. =)
Keep us posted on what the MRI shows... I'll be praying for the best result (whatever that may be) out of the possible two options.
I love your translation; old lady with freak toes.
But man, that's too bad about the potential treatment.
