diamondbacks

last wednesday i arrived to work at my usual time. a little frazzled because i rushed out the door. i didn't even dry my hair. it was in a damp ponytail and i was going to attempt to air dry it at work. lame, i know, but nobody would even notice. so i sat down in my pod and got ready to start my wonderful and exciting day of counting beans. my coworker pops her head up from her pod and motions for me to join her and another coworker in her pod. very secretive. so i do. she gets real close and pulls some paper from her jacket pocket. intrigued, i lean close, thinking maybe she has some company gossip. instead, it is 4 tickets to the diamondbacks game. at 12:40. this afternoon. we have been informed that we 3 and another of our coworkers must attend the game today. as a "pleasant" surprise.

normally we would be overjoyed. ditch work. go to a baseball game. leave early. get home early. good times. but this particular game fell in the middle of our crucial month end. the time we private company bean counters work our hardest to close the books for the previous month. by going to this game, we are all going to be a half day behind.

and i didn't do my hair. of course.

plus i was wearing dress pants and heeled shoes. not exactly baseball attire.

but we went. and sat in the big wig section next to gentlemen in their work clothes and their shiny loafers (or mitch moody all-states as lincoln likes to call them).

luis gonzales was there. sitting right in front of the steep stairs that led to the exclusive bathroom. i decided to hold it for the entire game. no way was i going to attempt those stairs in my stupid heeled shoes that are just fine for pod-sitting, but definitely not made for stadiums.

and i didn't do my hair. of course.

there is a lady that sits a few rows in front of the company seats who apparently has had the same seats since opening day opening year. she is literally their #1 fan. she comes alone but everyone knows her. sometimes she yells so loud (although not loud enough to actually make out what she is saying) that her face turns an unnatural shade of eggplant and i swear she is going to pass out right then and there. she is always the highlight of the game.

all in all, it was a fun time. sure beats counting beans.

lesson learned: always bring an extra pair of shoes, take the extra few minutes to dry your hair, and be grateful for life's "pleasant" surprises.

I don't get why you need to dry your hair?
Mine dries in like 2 seconds

the only reason it happened was because you didn't have your hair done. murphy's law. So when you want something super-special to happen you must do something minorly self-sabatoging to make it so.

ex: you want the quarterback of the football team to ask you out. Glue red zits to your face and he'll approach you that very day. Sure, you'll be "so embarrassed", but you'll have the date.

Who even says "date" any more. seems old-fashioned.
