tomorrow will be 23 weeks. baby will weigh as much as a large mango. although in my "emergency" ultrasound last wednesday, the er nurse said baby was 23 weeks and 1 day, even though i was technically only 22 weeks.
"emergency" ultrasound? whatever do you mean? thanks for asking...
let me set the scene:
last wednesday, i wasn't feeling all that great. my stomach was aching, i had what i figured was "round ligament pain" and my indigestion was in full force. i kept feeling hot and hotter and yucky and yuckier. but i figured since i was baking a spaghetti squash in my belly, of course i'm going to feel a little different. my right side above my hip was really aching, but i've had right hip pain for the last 16+ weeks (because apparently my legs are uneven and the baby likes to hang out on the right side).
i get home from work and plop myself onto the couch in full recline mode. then i notice my ankles and feet are super swollen.
i get up and start to make dinner. just mac n cheese, nothing gourmet. i notice that the milk smells a little funny. i make linc take a whiff just to make sure it isn't my prego nose. nope, milk's gone bad.
that explains my yucky feeling, i had some with breakfast! so lincoln runs down to the corner store for a gallon so we can finish the mac n cheese.
so we are sitting on the couch enjoying our fabulous home cooked meal and watching sleepers on netflix, when the pain came on in full force. my lower abdomen starting aching and i had this sharp stabbing pain in my right side. everything i tried to allievate the ache was worthless. i got up and walked around, tried the heating pad, switched positions on the couch. it just kept getting worse and worse.
i tried to call my mom but of course started to cry because of the pain and because it was my mom so lincoln had to talk to her. we called my ob's answering service and when she called back she said to head to the er.
so we did. around 9pm.
of course, now i am in full panic mode. i'm only 22 weeks, i can't be having contractions, what if something is wrong with my little squash! so i cry harder which makes the pain worse.
we head to banner gateway but pass the gilbert hospital on power. lincoln does a wild u-turn in the road and takes me there. i'm pretty sure he was scared too but he handled it like a pro.
they check me in, take me back in a wheel chair. the whole way i get tons of sympathy looks so i know i look like a complete wreck. after a quick examine they take me back for an ultrasound.
baby h is fine. fluid is fine, heart rate is fine, baby is 8 days bigger than average, but fine.
they check my kidneys and bladder.
apparently i had blood in my urine which points to 2 things - infection or a kidney stone. since i am prego, no ct scan for me. best they could do was assume a uti or kidney infection or stone. iv'd me with some antibiotics and then some anti-naseau meds because i start puking from the pain. they tried to give me tylenol but that came right back out. so a smidgen of morphine around 11:45pm and i finally was able to sit still.
poor linky was stuck in an incredibly uncomfortable chair and his back was cramping and spasming so he eventually ended up in the hospital bed with me. so we napped until the morphine wore off. then they checked my vitals again and warned that if anything got worse or if i had a fever to come back in, in case it was my appendix.
then home we went around 1:15am.
took my furlough day on thursday so i could try to rest (not likely). pain was back, mostly sore, but i didn't want to take the pain killers they gave me, just in case it numbed something i needed to be aware of.
friday saw my ob. she says it is most likely a kidney stone. antibiotics for the rest of the pregnancy. lots of water and cranberry juice. any time pain gets unbearable, head to the er. and make sure it is banner gateway. apparently i am too far along to go to any old hospital. needs to be the one she delivers at.
i spent the remainder of the afternoon researching kidney stones while pregnant. since my ultrasound of my kidneys didn't show anything, it is most likely small. and will probably naturally pass through. but i've read that it can be worse than labor. and if it is anything like what i felt wednesday night, i'm gonna need that epidural!
the pain comes and goes. today was the best i've felt all week. hopefully it won't last much longer.

That does NOT sound fun at all! Talk about painful on top of being uncomfortable.
A couple of Sundays ago some lady at church was telling me and another lady about a natural remedy for kidney stones. It sounded super easy, something like lemon juice with olive oil or something. She said that they passed in two or three days. If you like I could try to ask her tomorrow if I see.
