glee

A couple weekends ago Lincoln and I ventured out for our 2nd “date” since becoming parents (our first was an impromptu movie date to see Iron Man 2 – thank you Ma & Pa Hansen for the Christmas Gift Card we finally used and thank you Jana for watching Gem).

I’ll start at the beginning:

I love Glee. It is my kind of show. I love watching musicals and seeing high school students and teachers bust into song entertains me immensely (although HSM’s… not so much). The humor is witty and a tad snarky. Lots of current references. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard during a TV show and most of it is from nervous giggles.

So I mention to Lincoln that they have added a second live show for Glee on Sunday. The Saturday one had sold out quick. Even though I had been pretty sick, I really wanted to go. He contacted a few people through Craigslist but the tickets were going fast. We ended up getting them through StubHub for cheaper than face value. It was kinda a belated Mom’s day celebration since Lincoln had been sick that weekend.

Sunday morning, we’re up bright and early. Dropped Gem off at Erin’s. We stopped at QT for refreshments and $ for parking. Linc asks what I want. I said water and “surprise me”. Well color me surprised. He bought the nastiest gummy bears in existence. Technically they were gummy bugs and when you bit into them their gummy guts squirted into your mouth. Yeck!

We arrived at Dodge Theater about 30 minutes before show time. At first Lincoln was a little paranoid that he would be the only guy. But after being overwhelmed by a sea of preteen girls, we spotted a few males. After all, the girls on the show are very pretty. Plus they occasionally dance around in bikinis.

It was a mad house. The show was technically sold out. But you could look around and see whole rows that were empty. Probably because people were trying to re-sell tickets and didn’t by show time. The row in front of us was completely empty.

The show opened with LXD (I think) – Legion of Extraordinary Dancers. It was very cool. Mostly guys doing a lot of that “pop & lock” stuff. One of the Glee kids, who I don’t even know his name, they just call him Other Asian Kid, is part of the LXD. He did a routine with magical sneakers that controlled his dance moves. It was definitely the best one.

Before the main show started, there were “Cheerios” (if you don’t follow the show, these are the cheerleaders. The cheer coach HATES the glee club.) passing out barf bags! I felt like a fool/little kid but I made sure I got one. Free souvenir.

Then the Glee Kids came out. It was awesome. For the most part they re-enacted their song & dance routines from the show. We got a sneak peek at some of the upcoming episodes’ routines. My favorite was the Lady Gaga Bad Romance. Here’s a link:

If you aren’t a fan of the show and were dragged their by your wife and/or kids, you may have missed the point on some of the songs. Like when they are all in pajama’s and jumping on mattresses to the song “Jump”. Seems really silly out of context, but made perfect sense on TV.

I kept peeking over at Lincoln to make sure he wasn’t completely miserable. He seemed to be enjoying himself, enough anyways. I didn’t catch any hand gestures where he mimics shooting himself in the head with a handgun, or if it’s really bad, a sawed off shotgun.

It was so much fun. At one point, a few of the cast members were a few people away from me making their entrance down to the stage. Me and the girl next to me (who was there with her mom and was about my age or so) grabbed each other and were like, OMG, LOL, they are, like, right there!! Followed by squeals of 13 year olds. Not really. But close. I tried to quickly get my camera out but only got a shot of Kurt, who is entertaining and all. But Finn or Puck are, like, way cuter. And not gay.

After the show was over, we waited in the merchandise line for my incredibly over-priced “I’m a Gleek” t-shirt, which Lincoln more than insisted I get. T-shirts make the ultimate keepsake. I have a ton. I’m hanging on to them to make a quilt.

As we were driving home I asked Lincoln if he enjoyed himself. He said it was fun. His favorite part was seeing how happy I was. Husband of the year.

Awesome! Purely awesome. Brian hates that show. Maybe Lincoln should have a firm talking to with him, :-)

I'm glad you loved it! Happy late Mother's Day!
