She’s roughly over 25lbs.
She took her first steps on 10/7 (4 days shy of 10 months) in front of me and her daddy. She had been trying all afternoon, taking one unsupported step then falling on her bum. Lincoln held her snack cup and gave it a shake and I let go. She walked 3 steps to him before falling. It was awesome. And of course, we didn’t have the video camera out. We film everything else. She’s done it at least once each day since.
She loves to use her push walker or a chair and go all over the kitchen/family room. And she’s wicked fast when she wants to be.
The other day she used it to walk over to the stove and pull off the safety knob (she’s learned how to turn on our gas stove, so we bought those giant knob covers). As I took the few seconds to put it back on, she used her walker to get to the hall. I looked over and saw it parked with no Gemma in sight. I peek around the corner to the living room where she normally is hiding. Nope. Then I look down the hall to the bathroom. Nope. Sneaky baby had managed to crawl halfway up the stairs and was peeking at me through the bars, giggling away. Now the baby gate is always up.
So far she only has 2 teeth on the bottom. She loves getting them brushed.
She can give high fives and “share”.
She loves to hold the mail key for Daddy when they walk to the mail box after he gets off work.
She is still learning how to be gentle with the pups. She thinks it’s funny to head butt them when crawling. Myla has learned how to play with Gem. She took over one of Gemma’s stuffed animals as her own. She would try to get Gemma to play tug of war with her, but quickly learned she couldn’t pull so hard. Now she gently sets the doll on Gemma’s lap and playfully pulls so Gemma doesn’t lose her grip.
We took her to the zoo in Tucson the other weekend. She couldn’t really see much and probably enjoyed the squirrels and chipmunks that roamed around the best. My younger brother’s roommate has a bunny named JWOWW that she got to play with at his apartment. The bunny loved her and Gemma was so sweet and gentle with it. I personally hate rabbits. Especially after our wretched Bunny FooFoo. But seeing Gem play was fun. Linc and I are going to take her to a petting zoo soon.
She’s still a good eater. Always seems to want whatever we are having. Really makes me want to be a better eater.
She rarely ever cries now when I put her to bed. She’ll drink her bottle, then turn over to snuggle for a few minutes. Then I lay her in her crib, asleep or not. And out I go. Some nights she crashes instantly. Other nights she wants to play. But she eventually goes to sleep on her own.
The other night I was giving her the last bottle. She drank what she wanted, then turned over to cuddle with me. She lifted her sleepy head and gave me a kiss on the cheek. Then she snuggled up again and fell asleep. It made my night.
