where soul meets body

on my drive home, i was actually thinking of things that i could post about. it seemed to be quite a list. we'll see just how much i will remember.

TECHNOLOGICALLY-CHALLENGED
my mom is totally technologically challenged. the phase when she learned email was interesting. if you could only see the picture i have of her in my mind, when she sits at the computer and makes that face, benny & brian - you know the face. the one when she falls asleep on the couch at 8:30.

the most recent adventure with my mom and technology was this past weekend in globe. benny and i have new identical cellphones and we were comparing ring tones and pictures, etc. my mom also got a new phone. she was trying to ask us something about text messaging but this is what she said,"how do i tex-mex... tex-mexican." believe me, i can't make this stuff up.

its not only that my mom is a bit behind in the cell phone world, i'm not 100% sure she knows how to get her voicemails yet. but she is great at mixing up people's names. the infamous example is whoopi goldsburros (goldberg). my aunts do it. nana does it too. i have come down with a case of it myself, although i can keep names straight. its just sentences i have a hard time spitting out. i'll ask lincoln something like,"did you take the bank to the check?" he'll be cracking up and i have no idea what i said wrong. i've been doing that more and more frequently it seems.

DATING GAME
found out that my lil bro has a girlfriend (yes benny i know you read this, so pay close attention to my sage advice). she is a sophomore (sp?) and a flag girl. while in globe this weekend, mom brought this to my attention. she was also saying, with benny right there, that he is too young to date. he replies - but melanie was with lincoln when she was my age. ouch...

here's my advice -
first off, although i am very happy that linc and i met so young, and it makes for a great ~love~ story, we were too young. plain and simple. all the ish we went through over the 4 years in highschool were all because we were too immature. we were trying to have this grownup relationship when we were just kids. it caused a lot of heartache for both of us. it wasn't really until 2002 that we smoothed out our lives and were able to have a real, committed, honest, grownup relationship. i love linc with all my heart. i did from almost the first time i met him. i knew i was going to end up with him. but because i put most of my effort into the relationship with him, i missed out on other things. like friends, being asked to dances, asked to the movies, just stuff like that. i'm not assuming that you and this girl are going to be together forever. but benny keep your options open. high school is your free pass to meet people, to make friends, to be silly and a tad bit wild. high school romances cause a lot of heartache. keep that in mind. also, keep in mind what happened to vince when he was with pam. learn from our mistakes.

next subject...

HURRICANE T-SHIRTS
linc and i were at the airport last night to greet his cousin steve that is here on leave from the navy for two weeks before he gets stationed in san diego. we haven't seen him since april. while standing in baggage claim, there was an older couple (60's or so) wearing t-shirts that said "i survived hurricane wilma." wilma just left florida and they all ready have t-shirts. so who was the wise guy that had t-shirts made so quickly? another question is - why pay x amount of dollars for this t-shirt when there are so many people without food and water and electricity and gas and basic necessities in all the hurricane-ravaged parts of the united states? i hope the money that was spent to buy those t-shirts is at least going towards some kind of relief.

HURRICANE OLD NAVY
we had a hurricane of our own here at the hansen residence. all because i had to get a new pair of khaki pants for work. which turned into a shopping spree at old navy to the tune of one week's paycheck. considering i only work 20 hours in data entry, its not as bad as it sounds. but it still was quite a bit of stuff. all stuff i will wear and really wanted, but it was kind of a bad idea. i have a lot of regret now. actually once the woman at old navy rang it up and i saw the amount, i regretted it. i actually started sweating on the back of my neck. all i could think was "what is lincoln going to say?" but then i got all bratty and was like, but its my money, i can buy what i want.

but it isnt my money, it is our money. and i cant just buy whatever i want. especially when linc works 30 hours more than me a week at a much more strenuous job and he never just buys what he wants, like the nano ipod or whatever.

the hardest thing about being married for me is that everything i do will affect 2 people. i have to always be mindful of the fact that we are a team. what's mine is his, and what's his is mine. its rough. i feel like i lost my independence. when it was just me, my meager paychecks got the bills paid. if i went shopping like this, it meant no eating out or no movies this weekend or even less groceries. it is going to be interesting when we have kids because it will affect more than just 2. you really can't be selfish to make it in a marriage. unless you are loaded like gabrielle on dhw. and you can't be selfish to have kids.

HALLOWEEN
halloween is monday. so this weekend is party time. but not for me. *tear, sob, sob* i have a huge stupid accounting test monday so i will be spending all weekend studying. bleh... plus, since lincoln's cousin is in town this weekend, i'm sure linc will be occupado with halo. and parties are only fun when you can be silly drunk with someone you love.

tomorrow at work i need to dress up. i am lacking in desire. so i am wearing linc's ups shirt and visor. the pants dont fit so i will just wear jeans. but oh well. at least i am participating. i made lemon bars for the potluck tomorrow. i hope it is enough.

since this blog is turning into a novel i better get going. gotta hit the hay anyway. by the bay, i just may. (sorry happy gilmore possessed me for a second).

i leave with some clever little lines from some j.e.w.

we'll never be the same, never feel this way again, i'd give you anything but you want pain
a little water please i taste you all over my teeth
never again just tonight? ok

can we take a ride? get out of this place while we still have time

our time is borrowed and spent too freely
we're only just as happy as everyone else seems to think we are

i feel that when i'm old i'll look at you and know the world was beautiful
