Women usually love what they buy, yet hate two-thirds of what is in their closets. ~Mignon McLaughlin, The Neurotic's Notebook, 1960
today i treated myself to a day of shopping. this time to actually buy things. normally i like to wander stores/the mall and window shop/feel things and not buy anything. most times i actually buy something i give myself a panic attack.
but since linc had planned a nerd day, i.e. halo bash, i decided to treat myself. i haven't been clothes shopping in awhile. for two reasons. the first being we have been penny pinching to make sure we have enough fundage for this dang house we get the keys to in 31 days. and the second... well i am not willing to admit that the size 4 pants i have been wearing are not as comfortable as they used to be. i am a healthy weight, right about where i should be for my height. but i know i can stand to lose a few (read 5-10) pounds. we tried to the south beach diet earlier this year and it worked. i lost about 8 lbs (and i've really only gained back about 2 of those) but as soon as i started eating anything not a vegetable or grilled chicken, i plateaued. and then when your are a bit depressed about things, the last thing on your mind is food. or it may be the only thing on your mind. lincoln and i sure do enjoy our friday night dinners out (and sometimes saturday lunch and maybe even saturday dinner).
so back to my shopping. i asked my ups husband (who claims to know everything) if there was a ross by the old navy by our house. this shopping center has a kohl's, old navy, tj maxx, pac sun, and some other cute lil shop. he said he was pretty sure there wasn't a ross. i know there is one by our new house (there is one just a few miles from here but it is kinda ghetto and scary) so i drive all the way over to power and ray.
ross is fabulous. i had forgotten how much fun it can be buying cute shirts for $3.99!! i found quite a few gems. and this store is still clean :) then i heading back towards the apartment and stopped by the previously mentioned shopping center. and guess what is there? a ross!!! dang lincoln. i just wasted finite resources driving out to bfe!
so i popped in old navy and perused the alleged "sale items". they have a huge sign that says 75% off summer items! what a load of bull. yes there was a few items that were reduced price (i got a cute shirt for like $5) but everything else was regular price. i picked out a few things and went to the dressing room. two doors down was what sounded like a herd of cattle or a barrel of monkeys but i believe it was a mom and her two boys. she was trying to try on clothes and they were just going wild. i purchased a few items (2 of which i will be taking back, i tried them on in a hurry and re-tried them on at home and didn't like them quite as much).
then i braved the 180 degree heat and headed towards kohl's which isn't that far away. forget it, too dang hot, got in my car and drove to the other end of the parking lot with the ac blasting.
kohl's is kinda a hit or miss place. sometimes i find great deals but more often then not i leave there depressed. the sizing is all screwy. i never find anything in the women's section that doesn't look like "mom pants" (i'll cross that bridge when i have to but not yet). but the juniors section isn't really for someone with a lot of junk in the trunk (and thighs and gut and top). i fit into anything from a small to xl or a 4-9. today i got a super cute button up top and some shorts, both for only $20.
i absolutely love coming home to my puppy pico. he is so friggin excited to see me he doesn't know what to do. he wants to jump and lick and run and play and cuddle and bite all at once.
tomorrow is pico's graduation from puppy class. i need to make him a little cap and take pictures. he has done really good. not as good as suck up blaze the pitbull/rotty mix but definitely better than elton the italian greyhound. he has mastered come, sit, down, and uh-uh. he walks well on his leash and does "hurry" perfectly. he is doing just ok with stay, wait, leave it, and no bite. after we are all settled into our new house, we will probably enroll him in the next two classes, intermediate training (more basic command stuff) and click a trick, which looks like a lot of fun. we can teach him all kinds of tricks like dance, shake, play dead, etc. i think it would be hilarious to see a trained chihuahua. mostly they are just whiny brats.
anywhoo. i am going to finish laundry and watch a movie. i would really like to watch it in the living room so pico can play with tokey and i can keep an eye on them both but linc took the tv to nerd day (which by the way, started before i was even up!) and i am left with the not as nice one in the bedroom...
love.
