so yesterday after work i am drowning my sorrows in a bowl of halloween candy that i knew wouldn't make it to halloween, when i get a call from a lady who saw my sign about the lost cat. she said she saw a black cat running around her neighborhood. she gave me some quick directions, i called lincoln, the professional driver, and the bolted out the door.
20 minutes with a flashlight looking all over the field next to the streets the lady mentioned, no sign of my fatts. i return home defeated.
then during the last 10 minutes of heroes, the lady calls again, and says did you see the cat? i said no and she says well if you hurry over, i think i just saw a black cat jump the fence by my neighbors.
by now lincoln is home so we dash out the door leaving pico all dazed and confused.
this lady has an army of 4-5 boys all running around the neighborhood looking for rufus. lincoln sees a black cat a couple times darting between houses, but not for long enough to get a good glimpse.
realizing that i left the oven on at home, i rush back to turn it off and grab some bait: some lunch meat and a can of friskies, ru's favs. once again pico is confused.
we set the bait out and wait. we are sitting in the truck and across the street we see a black fluffy cat sulking along like rufus. i yell lincoln there he is. we both bolt out of the truck, but alas, the cat was too fast. we linger around for another 20 minutes or so. but no sign.
i took today off. i have been so worn out because of this cat and i think a sinus infection is on the way.
but since i took the day off, lincoln had to as well. we went back to that neighborhood around noon, but didn't see anything. then we went back at 4:30.
we drove around but didn't see anything. as we were heading home, i saw something black laying in the shade under a bush. i told lincoln to stop the car and he crept over to it. i crossed my fingers that it was ru and he wasn't hurt. lincoln scooped up the cat and i ran over there.
it was a mirror image of my rufus, just 5+ lbs lighter. same face. same exact eyes. same fuzzy tail. this cat still had his front claws and was just too small to be ours.
heartbroken again.
not entirely sure that cat we saw last night and this one are the same, but just seems too coincidental.
poor ru.
