Gem's New Furniture

with baby 2 halfway cooked i've started to have the pregnant lady panic. i have yet to buy a singe thing for this new baby. i still have all the big, important items from gem, plus some gender neutral clothing. but i still have a list going of what i'll need for baby 2, as well as things for gem to transition her to her own room.

i always have decorating in mine. but for the most part, i am incredibly practical when it come to that stuff. we have a lot of second hand items and are still using our ridiculously small and light weight kitchen table from ikea which we bought for our apartment in 2005. gem can push it all around the kitchen. trust me, a new table is definitely on the "list".

for gem's big girl room, i pictured the sweet white girly bedroom furniture. but once i started to price it out, that idea went right out the window. i like to monitor craigslist for any deals, just i case i find something worthy.

and just my luck...

a beautiful pine bedroom set - trundle bed (for gemmy to have sleepovers with the cousins), a dresser, nightstand, and a bookcase. for dirt cheap.

all the way in paradise valley.

after some discussion with the mister and a review of our budget (especially now), i emailed the lady. she was great and was willing to hold it for me until the weekend, even though she did have some other offers come in.

we borrowed one brother's truck and another brother's muscles and made the trek to pv.

the house was literally a mansion. one of those beautiful desert homes set in the hillside just full of windows. i zillowed it after the fact and found it is worth $1.8m.

the furniture was even better than the pictures/description suggested. lincoln was fully prepared to haggle but took one look and a couple of knocks and was sold. heavy solid pine. excellent condition. barely used because this was their second home (they lived in CA during the week).

they were some of the nicest, cleanest people i have ever met. gem even left with an armful of practically brand new stuffed animals.

now the furniture is sitting in our rarely used living room. we need to clean out the bedroom which has been used as storage for the last few years and get the walls painted. i have a bedspread and some wall items (thanks to bday giftcard from grandma and grandpa hansen) that are purple in nature so the walls will probably be a light purple.
