P.S. You ruined my life!

i was cleaning out some old notebooks when i came across a little gem of lincoln's. it was a letter to a medical collections agency. handwritten. in pencil. dated april 2006.

let me give a little background story:

back in 2000, lincoln was working a summer job doing construction. apparently a board fell off the roof and clocked linc right on his noggin. it cut a decent size gash. so lincoln, 17 and not from the valley, drove himself to a hospital. alone. it required several staples. the globe grapevine made it sound like he was shot in the face with a bazooka, at least that is how it travelled to san diego where i was for a summer camp.

the total bill was $333. the construction company told him they would take care of it, either through there insurance or workers comp.

so as bills would come to the globe house he would send them down to the construction company.

then he moved out in 2001 and didn't really see the bills.

fast forward to 2006. lincoln and i are newly married, considering purchasing a house. we get our credit pulled and find out that lincoln has been dinged big time for this dang medical bill that has since gone to collections.

so this letter i find is his dispute letter of the charges. it is very formal and proper. he makes a very good case (in pencil, on lined notebook paper... i'm sure we typed this up later).

after signing his chicken scratch signature, he include the following post script:

P.S. You ruined my life.

when i reported this story to him today over the phone, he had a good laugh. later he sent me text saying "you should blog that". as you wish :)

Kimball, you're so funny.

Oh my gosh. If I was working at that construction company and had any knowledge of the bill being forwarded to the office (and realizing the magnitude of this problem and future issues it would create) I would've totally stepped up and demanded that bill be paid!
