yesterday was my last day of physical therapy (sort of). i successfully completed 4 weeks. my leg doesn't ache like it used to and my foot has gained most of the feeling back. and i've lost 9 lbs. bonus!
but i am not 100% back to normal. i still have what feels like a huge knot at the ball of my feet under my 3 little toes. my leg does occasionally still throb from the back of the knee to the tips of my toes, and i get a sharp pain every now and then. and when i stand on it for too long i do get a little bit of the tinglies.
i asked my therapist what would happen if i tried to run.
he replied, "your leg would fall off."
"no seriously, what would happen?"
"your leg would fall off." completely straightfaced.
then finally after i gave him the look of death, he gave me a straight answer: running would aggravate the muscle and cause a flare up in my symptoms and quite possibly permanent nerve damage (which i think i may already have some of that, poor little piggies). then he added, "you can try it." like i'm gonna after that? he said that if i do try to just pay attention to the leg and the moment it tightens up start doing some stretches and movements and then ice it down. just to start off slow. i don't have any problems on the elliptical, but i think it is the impact of running that jacks me up.
i am on the schedule for another week of PT unless the dr. says otherwise. matt, my therapist, wants me to come back for a few weeks. although i am a puzzling case with lots of ups and downs, i do feel like it helps. plus, i am in pretty good shape because of it (also, i've been eating better and doing pilates and weights at home, so he doesn't deserve all the credit).
